We have coached two hundred crabs to the beginning of their own sailing path, are you next?

Our own paths to the sea are quite different: a hobby that started in childhood and an acute passion for sailing in adulthood. Together, we are able to offer wannabe sailors both decades of stable sailing and training expertise, as well as support and understanding for the first steps of a rather remarkable path.

We are founding members and active members of Hamar's sailors, chosen as the Yacht Club of the Year 2022, as well as finalists for the media act of the Year in Sailing. Through the local sailing courses we organize, in the course of four years we have prepared another hundred fresh sailors for the sea with a customer satisfaction rating of 9.7 (scale 0-10).

Sailing has an incredible effect on the mind and body. Everyone deserves the sea and peace of mind!That's why we moved our super popular face-to-face course to online training. After the course, you are ready to move to a sailboat and to the water, either independently or with our nearby course in Porvoo. Welcome to the first step! During sailing, you can steer the boat, as well as perform other tasks central to sailing, independently with the support of the pilot.

We have several beginner-friendly small excursion boats in which you can effectively get to the heart of sailing.

The boat takes 1-4 sailors at a time.

Who is the Sailing Course suitable for?

For the dreamers, the doers, the restless, the seekers, the bored, the happy. Sailing makes anyone's life better, we know from the experience of hundreds of course participants.

Around sailinghas caught the unpleasantly stubborn stigmas of yacht club tables covered with crystal glasses and hundreds of people tearing up in a cold shower. Of course, you can enjoy sailing from the deck of a millionaire, but in fact, with the help of our tips, a beginner can get into the hobby with a few hundred dollars.

The course consists of 14 video lectures and remote group meetings. At the end of the lectures, you will receive a remote assignment to support your own learning.

Parts, terms and functions of a sailboat

Sailing Vocabulary may sound like a foreign language, but there's a reason for that: when each grate operator has its own name, communication on the boat is fast and safe. In the course, you will learn the most important parts and their functions, and we will also learn the rest for decades to come.

Wind and the basics of sailing

It's amazing to be part of the planetary wind system and harness the forces of nature for your own movement. In the course, you will learn how a sailboat travels in forward, headwind and crosswinds, what the most important directions for a sailor mean, raising and lowering and how to turn a sailboat.

Sailing boat equipment and maintenance

We go through the inspection equipment of the sailboat, other important equipment, and the things that should be inspected on the boat annually / monthly / before every sailing, so that you can sail safely and carefree.

Knots and attachment

Most boat damage occurs when running ashore. Changing piers, natural harbors, currents and winds keep things interesting year after year. We go through good tactics for different landings and the most important knots for safe attachment.

Basics of navigation

Moving safely at sea requires knowledge of sea marks, their recognition at sea and on the map, and correct interpretation of the map. In addition, we practice route planning and go through what kind of official study paths are available for boaters who want to deepen their navigation skills.

The most important rules of sea routes

Although there are more open lanes on the water than asphalt roads, the water also has its own rules for dodging. The master's responsibility also extends to the crew's activities, and communication from one boat to another is handled according to certain protocols. Good seamanship is a matter of honor and safety.

The most common boat types and costs

There is a wide range of sailing boats to choose from, from small boats to ocean liners. Which boat would suit your needs, what should you consider when buying a boat and what kind of costs can you expect? The lowest selling price boat is never the cheapest, don't fall into the trap.This information can save you thousands to tens of thousands of euros!

Sailing philosophy

The growth curve of a beginner sailor is dizzyingly steep. Along your journey, you will encounter countless successes and failures, platform shouters (friendly and tarnished), an insane amount of uncertainty and amazing life lessons that apply even on dry land. We share personal observations and tips on how to navigate forward towards the skipper of your own life.

Local sailing course (option)

As a continuation of the online course, we organize nearby course days for those course participants who want to come to Porvoo to put the theory into practice. Day sailings are carried out in small groups (1-4 course members) in May-June in the Porvoo archipelago. Departure from Hamar.The local course day is priced separately and there are a limited number of them.You can secure your place by reserving it when booking the online course.

I was lucky, because the students at my school had an annual sailing camp with light boats throughout elementary school. So I got enthusiastic about sailing early on. The summers spent in the wooden fiskars of my childhood directed my enthusiasm especially towards wooden classic boats.

Since then, I have allowed the good to circulate by acting as an assistant teacher and a responsible teacher at numerous sailing courses, camps and clubs for children and adults. In total, I have taught hundreds of beginner sailors, e.g. in sailing club courses and schools in Porvoo.

I have skippered my own 75-year-old classic wooden boat since 2019. My sailing is focused on excursion sailing, but I compete somewhat both on my own boat and on other boats, e.g. Int 5.5m in Pohjantähti race crews.

For the fourth year, I am the chairman or commodore of the board of directors of the sailing club Hamari yachtsmen, which we have established for the fourth year. Perhaps Finland's fastest growing and in 2022 HaPu, chosen as boat club of the yearrepresents the sailing culture that I want to promote.

The club can accommodate members from very different backgrounds and with different budgets, but everyone is united by the desire to work together to develop a boating culture that is alive and accessible to everyone. Sailing doesn't have to be expensive! I myself am a living example of that.

Wooden classic boats appeal to me both in terms of irreplaceable cultural heritage, aesthetics and durability. I am actively involved in traditional weaving, e.g. from PorvooThe 92-year-old Wilenius shipyard in the board and have a good understanding of wooden boats, their history, repairs and maintenance.

I am a living example of how a perfect land crab can turn from a Swedish cruiser into a wash-proof sailor with one apt sailing course ad.

I had my first contact with sailingon the women's sailing course in the fall of 2017. I was immediately sold. Harnessing the wind for your own purposes and constantly surpassing yourself is an endorphin cocktail that I have not found anywhere else.

At the end of the coursewe decided to get a carpool boat with a dozen new female sailors I met on the course and I'm still on that happy path. As a bonus sector, Adele also joined in, who at the time worked as an assistant teacher of the course.

Six summers later, I have accumulated my skills as a skipper of my own boat, a boatman in other boats, in competitions in courses. I have sailed across the Baltic Sea and in the Atlantic. I have qualified for the wonderfulness of women's and team boatingin the papers,on the radio andin podcasts. Because of this good thing, I was shortlisted for SPV's year2022 as a media work for boating, although the victory was won by solo sailor Tapio Lehtinen, who went around the ball in the Golden Globe Race. Perhaps deservedly so ;)

The most important achievement we have establishedThe sailors of Hamar, the best sailing club in Finland, on the board of which I still work, promoting the values that are important to me: the appreciation of the unique island nature, local history and culture.

Although I sail for purely hedonistic reasons, it has been very rewarding to help hundreds of fellow land crabs take the first steps on their own marine (or lake) path. With the help of the online sailing course, sailfluenza, which is very difficult to heal, spreads even more effectively!
